Sight Loss Awareness Training for Care Homes

All care settings will have residents with visual impairments. Sight loss is difficult and frustrating for those who live with it. It exacerbates social isolation and often has a highly negative impact on a person’s mental and physical health.  For carers it can be hard to understand the impact of sight loss and how best to support someone who is partially sighted or blind.

Coventry Vision Hub is pleased to offer a two-hour Sight Loss Awareness training course for care home staff.

The course covers:

  • Understanding the most common causes of sight loss and how they affect people in different ways
  • Hallucinations associated with sight loss (Charles Bonnet Syndrome)
  • Practical training in sighted guiding
  • Sight loss with complex needs: dementia, hearing impairment and learning disabilities
  • Tips and techniques for supporting someone with sight loss
  • Daily living aids
  • Further sources of support

Training for up to 10 people at a time can be delivered in your setting or at Coventry Vision Hub in Earlsdon.

The cost is £300 per session.

Coventry Vision Hub provides a wide range of expert help for people with visual impairments and their carers, including practical support with things like benefits applications, knowledgeable advice on and access to daily living aids and equipment and accessible activities. Transport to the hub is available for visually impaired people.
